Privacy Statement
Veterinary medical records are confidential and should not be released without the client's consent or as required by law. Here are some examples of veterinary patient confidentiality:
Client requests
Veterinarians are required to provide copies or summaries of medical records when requested by the client.
Other veterinarians
If another veterinarian requests records for a patient they are caring for and has the consent of the animal's caretaker, the records must be released.
Court orders, subpoenas, or other laws
Animal records may be disclosed if it is for a court order, subpoena, or to comply with other state or federal laws.
Third parties
In Florida, Illinois, and Hawaii, animal medical records cannot be shared with a third party without the client's consent or for compliance with a court order.
Personal or professional gain
It is unethical for a veterinarian to remove, copy, or use a medical record for personal or professional gain without the client's and the practice owner's permission.
I agree to the privacy statement above.
